About Us

The Libertyville Historical Society was officially founded in 1955 as the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society. During that year, a steering committee proposed the society's goal and purpose: "to discover, study, discuss, collect, and preserve information and materials relative to the history of the community."

The Ansel B. Cook Home is the society's museum and archive. The house stands as a wonderful tribute to the dedicated members of the Libertyville Historical Society who continue to embrace a mission of preservation that benefits our extended community.

As a society, our duties include the following:

Collect

Seek out and accept materials with historical significance to Libertyville or the surrounding area and Victoriana for the Ansel B. Cook Home.

Preserve

Maintain the Ansel B. Cook Home as a museum and historical site.

Share

Welcome visitors during public open houses, private tours, and special events.

Educate

Present local history programs, walking tours, exhibits, and school programs.
